Festival History

For decades, the Scotland Island Fair traditionally had been our one-day market festival. Then in 2004 we decided to let our talents loose and created “28 Days on an Island—A Celebration of Community”, a month-long pageant bringing our unique community together to parade, act, dance, create and play—to enjoy who we are!

28 days is a lunar month and our community lives by the tides and phases of the moon. “28 days on an Island” also conjures up associations with the relative isolation that shapes our lifestyle and encourages us to pull together as a community.

The 2004 Festival aimed to draw a rainbow of creative, sporting, dramatic and musical events into one dynamic celebration. The Festival organisers, Claire Atkins and Emmie Collins, were applauded for their results and won Pittwater Council’s Australia Day Award for the Best Community Event. Congratulations, Emmie and Claire!

In 2006 we aim to build on the experience and success of 2004 and bring you an even more enticing event program.
