Artists Talks - Special Event
Sunday 29th October
As part of the 2006 Festival’s Shape of Water Exhibition, we are pleased to present talks by three local artists, sculptor Michael Kitching, painter Tracy Smith and print-maker Jan Melville.
Michael Kitching winner of the prestigious Blake prize has over a long career, produced many private and public works. Michael will present a talk on The Pursuit of Meaning- Along with fire and stone implements; art was among the first things humans invented. To have survived the rigours of the process of evolution and natural selection, it must have a fundamental importance in our lives.
Tracy Smith was selected to be hung in the Blake prize 2005 and has a long career teaching art and working and experimenting in many different media. Tracy will be giving a brief historical overview of fresco practice and demonstrating the preparation and basic approaches to fresco painting, that need no specialist equipment or materials.
Jan Melville, whose prints have toured in exhibitions throughout Australia and overseas is a member of the Sydney Printmakers. Jan will be presenting a talk on Artist’s Books and printmaking and will be showing examples of her beautifully crafted books.

Talks will be held in the Scotland Island Community Hall on Sunday 29th October. Space is limited so please book early.
